A Photographer’s Vision 1: My concept of “China”

To say this at the beginning, I love my country, China, however, this “China” is not the PRC or ROC, it’s only China, a collective history of 5000 years, from the palaces of the emperors of the dynasties to the books of Lu Xun, and to the songs of Eason Chan. I love the heat that runs in the blood veins of all Chinese people, I love for there are still people fighting for the dreams of Mr. Sun Yat-sen.

If I post the above statement on Chinese social media, I will certainly be accused to be anti-China, I want to say by pro-CCP users but to be honest everyone (who is not censored by officials is pro-CCP).

I often say to people, do not blend Chinese people with the Chinese Communist Party. There are a lot of people who shared my vision back home, they want a free, democratic China, a friendly, non “wolf-warrior diplomats” China. But truthfully, some people just can not separate the party from the concept of “China”. There’s a phrase from a communist song “If there’s no CCP, there’s no new China”. Well, if that is the case, I’d prefer the old China.

As far as I am concerned, there’s no ground for communism in this world due to the nature of humans, it is impossible for all people to contribute willingly without any instant reward in the long term of time. That is why CCP created the so-called Socialism with Chinese characteristics which emphasizes the importance of the one-party system in which the CCP is in charge while proceeding with some capitalist reform in diplomacy and economy to eliminate the disadvantages of running a system that is fundamentally against human nature while keeping the power of the party.

Then it comes to you, why should you, as a non-Chinese person, a member of the free world, separate the Chinese people and the concept of “China” in general away from the CCP? The reason is simple, the concept of “China” went way back before the CCP or even the idea of socialism/communism, from Qing Dynasty to the era of the Republic of China, us Chinese made prosperous and rich culture. Yet now even as the majority of the territory, we call China is controlled by a totalitarian regime, Chinese like me who have lived in the west or simply have a basic understanding of how this world is running, are basically against CCP. As I said before, many shares my vision as I share the vision of Mr. Sun Yat-sen, the founding father of the Republic of China who dreamt of a free, strong and diverse China. And you, a member of the free world, can help to accomplish that vision. Help to spread the voice, allow the world to know the people, the culture and the struggle of common Chinese aside from all the negative images of the CCP, they are not the same thing.

Long live Mr, Sun Yat-sen, long live the Three Principles of the People.

“以建民國,以進大同。To found a republic, to advance into peace.”
